Watched Folders: Auto-Upload on Mac (Pro)

Watched Folders lets you designate one or more folders on your Mac that Klass-RM Uploader monitors for new files. When a new file appears in a watched folder, it uploads automatically to your reMarkable - no dragging, no clicking. Just drop a file in the folder and it appears on your tablet.

This feature requires a Klass-RM Uploader Pro license. It is Mac-only.

The app must be open for watching and uploading to happen.

Setting up a watched folder

  1. Open Klass-RM Uploader on your Mac.
  2. Click the Watched Folders tab (or open it from the menu).
  3. Click Add Folder (the plus button).
  4. A file picker opens. Choose the folder you want to watch and click Open.
  5. A dialog appears asking what to do with files already in the folder:
    • Upload all existing files - uploads everything currently in the folder.
    • Skip existing files, watch for new ones - ignores what is already there and only watches for files added from now on.
    • Cancel - go back without adding the folder.
  6. Choose an option and confirm.
  7. The folder appears in the Watched Folders list. The app starts watching it immediately.

What files get uploaded

Any new file of these types that appears in a watched folder is uploaded:

  • PDFs
  • Images (JPG, PNG, etc.)
  • EPUB files
  • Text files (.txt)
  • Markdown files (.md, .markdown)
  • Comic archives (.cbz, .cbr) - requires Pro

Text and Markdown files are converted to EPUB before uploading, just like manual uploads.

Per-folder settings

Each watched folder has its own settings. Click the folder in the list to edit them.

Conversion settings

Toggle Use default conversion settings off to set custom options just for this folder.

  • Format: PDF/ePub (default) or reMarkable Notebook. Notebook also requires a Connect subscription.
  • Large-file optimization: Whether and how to shrink large PDFs. Uses the same quality presets as the main app (High, Balanced, Small).
  • Grayscale: Convert files to grayscale before uploading.
  • Flatten: Flatten PDF layers and annotations.
  • Comic quality: Quality preset for comic archives (if you are uploading comics to this folder).

Destination folder (Pro)

Choose which reMarkable folder files from this watched folder land in. Click Upload to to pick from your reMarkable folder tree or create a new folder.

By default, files go to the top level.

Watch subfolders

By default, only the top level of your watched folder is monitored in real time.

Toggle Watch Subfolders on to also scan subfolders automatically on a schedule. When on:

  • Set how often subfolders are checked (1 minute to 6 hours).
  • Any new or changed files in subfolders are uploaded.
  • The subfolder structure is mirrored on your reMarkable (subfolders become reMarkable folders under the destination).

After upload

Choose what happens to a file after it uploads successfully:

  • Leave in place - the file stays in the folder. The content hash is remembered, so it will not be uploaded again even if you move it back.
  • Move to Uploaded folder - the file is moved into an Uploaded/ subfolder inside the watched folder. Useful for keeping track of what has been sent.
  • Delete - the file is deleted after uploading. Use with care.

Stability delay

The app waits this long after a file appears before uploading it. This prevents half-written files (still being copied or saved by another app) from being sent before they are complete.

Default is 30 seconds. Adjustable. If you are copying large files that take a while to land, increase this value.

Duplicate detection

Klass-RM Uploader remembers which files it has already uploaded to each watched folder using a content fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash of the file's contents).

This means:

  • The same file will not upload twice, even if you rename it or copy it back into the folder.
  • If a file changes (its content is different from the previous version), it will be detected as new and uploaded again.

Watching while signed out

You can configure watched folders even before you sign in to your reMarkable account. However, detection pauses and no uploads happen while you are signed out. The Watched Folders pane shows an "uploads paused" notice.

When you sign in, the app re-scans all watched folders for any files that arrived while it was paused and uploads them.

Removing a watched folder

  1. Click the folder in the Watched Folders list.
  2. Click Remove (or the minus button).

Removing a watched folder does not delete any files. It only stops monitoring that folder.

Troubleshooting

Files are not uploading:

  • Make sure Klass-RM Uploader is open. The app must be running for uploads to happen.
  • Check that you are signed in to your reMarkable account.
  • Check the upload queue for error messages.

The same file keeps uploading:

  • This can happen if you chose Delete or Move as the after-upload action, and the same file keeps reappearing. Check your workflow and what is placing files in the folder.

Files from subfolders are not uploading:

  • Make sure Watch Subfolders is turned on for that folder.
  • Check the scanning interval - it may not have run yet.
