Uploading Files

This page covers the main ways to upload files directly from the Klass-RM Uploader app. For uploading via the share sheet or by printing, see the Share Extension and Print Helper pages.

What file types can you upload?

File type What happens
PDF Uploaded as-is. Always stays a PDF on your reMarkable.
Images (JPG, PNG, etc.) Uploaded and displayed on your reMarkable. Can be converted to an editable Notebook with Pro + Connect.
EPUB Uploaded as-is. Displays as a reflowable document.
Text files (.txt) Converted to a formatted EPUB and uploaded.
Markdown files (.md, .markdown) Rendered to a formatted EPUB with headings, lists, and links, then uploaded.
Web URLs The app fetches the article from the page and uploads it as a clean, readable EPUB.
Local folders All eligible files inside the folder are uploaded.
Comic archives (.cbz, .cbr) Converted to a multi-page PDF (Mac only, requires Pro).

Note about PDFs and Notebooks: PDFs always upload as PDFs, even if you have Notebook conversion turned on. Notebook conversion applies to images, articles, and text/Markdown files only.

Uploading by dragging and dropping (Mac)

The fastest way to upload on Mac is to drag files directly onto the app window.

  1. Open Klass-RM Uploader.
  2. Find the files you want to upload in Finder.
  3. Drag one or more files onto the app window and release.
  4. If the files are large (over the size threshold you set), a confirmation sheet appears so you can review the settings before uploading. Otherwise, uploads start immediately.

You can drag multiple files at once, and you can drag an entire folder. See the section on uploading folders below.

Uploading with the file picker

  1. Open Klass-RM Uploader.
  2. Click or tap Upload Files (Mac) or Upload Files button (iPhone/iPad).
  3. A file browser opens. Navigate to the files you want and select them. You can select multiple files at once.
  4. Tap or click Open.
  5. Uploads start. You can track progress in the upload queue below the main area.

Uploading a web article from a URL

  1. Open Klass-RM Uploader.
  2. Copy the URL of the article you want to read on your reMarkable.
  3. Click or tap the URL button or paste the URL into the URL field.
  4. The app fetches the article, extracts the text and images, and uploads it as a clean EPUB. Ads, sidebars, and navigation menus are stripped out.

The result looks like a clean ebook on your reMarkable - just the article content, formatted for easy reading.

Uploading a local folder

You can upload an entire folder of files at once. The app reads the folder recursively and uploads all eligible files inside it.

With a Pro license: The folder structure is recreated on your reMarkable. Subfolders become subfolders.

Without a Pro license: All files upload to the top level of your reMarkable, without any folder structure. The first time you do this, the app shows a notice explaining that folder mirroring is a Pro feature.

To upload a folder on Mac, drag it onto the app window or use the Upload Files button and select a folder.

Choosing where files land (Pro)

By default, files upload to the top level of your reMarkable library. With a Pro license, you can pick a specific folder instead.

A Upload to row appears below the file list before you upload. Tap it to open the folder picker, choose a folder, or create a new one.

See the Choosing a Destination Folder page for full details.

The upload queue

Every upload - current and recent - appears in the queue at the bottom of the main screen.

  • In progress: A progress bar shows how much has uploaded.
  • Completed: A checkmark appears when the file reaches your reMarkable.
  • Failed: A red indicator appears. Tap or click the item to see the error and retry if needed.

Uploads continue in the background even if you close the app. The next time you open it, completed and failed jobs will be shown.

History retention: On Mac, you can choose how long completed upload records are kept. Go to Settings and look for History Retention. Options range from keeping records for a day up to keeping them indefinitely.

What "background uploads" means

Once an upload is started, it continues even after you close the app - your tablet will receive the file without you having to keep the app open. The queue updates with the final status the next time you open the app.

If you are not signed in

If you try to upload before signing in to your reMarkable account, the app will prompt you to sign in. Once you sign in, any uploads you started will continue automatically.
