Comic Conversion: CBZ and CBR Files (Pro, Mac)

Klass-RM Uploader can convert comic book archives into a format your reMarkable can display. Drop a .cbz or .cbr file and the app handles everything - no manual conversion needed.

This feature requires a Klass-RM Uploader Pro license. It is Mac-only.

What are CBZ and CBR files?

  • CBZ - A comic book archive in ZIP format. Very common, used by most comic readers.
  • CBR - A comic book archive in RAR format. Slightly older but still widely used.

Both formats contain a series of image files (one per page) packed into a single archive. Klass-RM Uploader unpacks them and converts the pages into a PDF your reMarkable can read and annotate.

How to upload a comic

  1. Open Klass-RM Uploader on your Mac.
  2. Drag the .cbz or .cbr file onto the app window, or click Upload Files and select the file.
  3. A confirmation sheet appears (because comic files always require conversion). You can review the quality settings here.
  4. Click Upload.
  5. The app converts the comic and uploads it. This may take a moment for large files.

You can also upload comics via the macOS share extension, the print helper, or a watched folder.

Comic quality settings

Comic conversion uses a separate quality preset from the regular document optimizer. This lets you tune comics independently from regular PDFs.

Go to Settings > Conversion and look for Comic quality. Three options:

  • High: Best image quality, largest file size.
  • Balanced: Good quality with reasonable file size. Recommended for most comics.
  • Small: Smallest file size, some visible quality reduction. Useful if you have many comics.

You can also adjust the quality per upload in the confirmation sheet that appears when you drop a comic.

What if the comic will not convert?

The app shows a clear error message if a comic cannot be converted. Common reasons:

  • Encrypted archive: The .cbr or .cbz file is password-protected. Remove the password first using a tool like The Unarchiver.
  • Multi-volume archive: The file is part of a split multi-volume set. Reassemble the volumes before uploading.
  • Damaged file: The archive is corrupted. Try re-downloading the file.

What free users see

If you do not have a Pro license and you drop a .cbz or .cbr file, the app shows an upgrade prompt explaining that comic conversion requires a Pro license. The file is not uploaded until you have an active license.
